Born into a family of actors, writers and painters, the Brazilian native started as a child, doing commercials, voice overs and jingles for Radio and TV, while listening to 'mpb', bossa nova, samba, jazz, funk and soul. "There were so many influences and music around me and I wanted to learn everyone's sound."
After high school, Falabella decided to take voice and english lessons in New York. After a short while she started to do studio and club work. That experience lead her to a great number of recordings with artists such as Gato Barbieri, Philippe Saisse, Sadao Watanabe, Cyro Baptista, Jason Miles, Will Lee, Eumir Deodato, Rick Braun as well as an EMI group project called Criara, with great filmscore producers Frank Ferrucci and Scott Lehrer.
Vanessa Falabella' 1995 debut with Rain Forest Band, brought to life the opportunity of writing a joint work, with two great Brazilian musicians Magrus and Claudio Spiewak in Miami. That was registered in one CD, released independentely. She also wrote tunes with Rob Bargad, Ragh, Luca Mundaca, Zooga Mallaga, Tony Cedras, Frank Ferrucci and other fine songwriters. Back to New York in 1997, she started blending all her musical influences of Brazilian and American grooves, singing in Portuguese and English. While in New York, Vanessa developed both a Brazilian-Latin and American following. Her Brazil Nights at Cafe Wha shows attracted a large audience, playing to packed house every Monday night in Greenwich Village for nearly 3 years. Her performances at New York's top venues includes concerts at Joe's Pub, The Knitting Factory, Town Hall (opening act for Paquito D'Rivera,Toninho Horta, Joćo Bosco and John Patitucci), Prospect Park with Phillip Glass and Ticco da Costa, Windows at the World (WTC), Lincoln Center's, S.O.B.'s, Brazilfest Out-of-Doors, and The Supper Club and she has also performed as special guest at the Taste of Jazz Festival in Miami, Florida, at St. Kitts Music Festival (Caribbean Island) and at 'New York Bar' in Tokyo, Yonker Jazz and Blues at Dusk 08; Kennedy Center Washignton 08. "Now, in Brazil, She's singing Brazilian Classics by Cartola, Ataulfo Alves, Jobim's songs, as well as promoting "VIBE", a CD Project, where she sings sophisticated versions of Superstition, Don't Stop The Dance, Sunny, Over My Shoulder, Change The World, I Wanna Be Where You Are, and others great hits from differents times. The album was Produced by Marcelo Lima and features some great guests such as super rapper S.Uno blending into a jazz flow, and the Grammy-winning Christian vocalist Claude Mcknight, from group Take 6 on a beautiful duet in "For The Love Of You", as well as Tomati on the guitar and a fine and creative percussionist Mauro Refosco, David Byrne's sideman."Vibe" couldn't come at a better time, with all signs pointing to increased interest in albums produced by classy female musicians. Vanessa Falabella's sound is an enchanting, classic yet thoroughly contemporary mix of Pop, Brasil, Jazz and R&B, technologically savy yet rooted in old-school musical savoir-faire."
